Quote:
And why have most of the police in the UK been traditionally disarmed? It's because they feared that being armed would encourage criminals to own firearms. If criminals know they may face an armed policeman they are more likely to go to the trouble of obtaining a firearm. And the UK has a much lower gun crime and homicide rate than the US. Reddbecca might want to take time out of her rantings to consider this. How well would disarming the police work in the US? Well, there are already a lot of criminals with firearms in the US so it's probably too late.

OMDP once said this and it may provide a reason for why the police continued to be a disarmed police force until recently.

OMDP quote (not word for word)
Quote:
The desire for people to have guns in the UK is far lesser than in the US.

In many places besides the US there is a strong desire for gun ownership. So that could be the main reasoning. Like i had said you fear escalation. That if we buy semi-automatics criminals will buy automatics. The problem is, is that you cannot be sure that deescalation if police, and even civilians means deescalation of the criminals or shall we say people who desire to commit crimes. But would you trust your life or your family's life on it.

Would Iran or North Korea not want nuclear weapons if the US got rid of all theirs ?

That which does not kill you, makes you stronger.
