It does not mean that your guns are registered. When I bought all my firearms, the only "registration" is the sales slip that the gun store must keep. That is about it. So let's say one of my firearms was in a crime and still had the serial number. They can trace the sale to see what gun store it came from and who bought it. I stressed the word trace because that is the information that push is using to target certain gun stores.

Your guns ARE registered, with the BATFE. They know exactly who you are, where you live, all your personal and private information, and exactly how many guns you bought from licensed dealers and what their serial numbers are. That's the gun trace data the mayors want for civil lawsuits to drive legal dealers out of business! So yes all guns are already registered!

We don't need a statewide licensing and registration system, it's useless. If the police get a gun and the serial numbers haven't been obliterated then they can call the BATFE, give them the number and get a trace back immediately of who was the last known buyer (either the first of the second if the person-to-person transaction was done through an FFL) and what store sold it. What they CAN'T figure is if the gun was used in a crime or not, because trace data doesn't show this.
